I was lucky enough recently to spend some time with a friend of mine in New York. He has a great collection of stuff, but this time we spent most of our time listening to a pair of Auditorium 23 4181 speakers. These were a prototype pair as the crossover hadn’t been settled on, but he had used a couple of vintage caps to cut bass to the field coil tweeters.
They have an 18″ field coil driver augmented by a LM Audio 597 field coil tweeter. The sound from these was amazing. Huge impact and scale, so cool to look at as well. A true homage to the past.
