My Ortofon TA-210 tonearm has arrived for the 401 project. It is a really nicely packaged and put together product. Made in Japan by Jelco I believe, to Ortofon specifications. Art Dudley reviewed it a few years back here and had good things to say about it. I had considered getting a Schick, but the waiting time was just beyond my patience tolerance. I also considered one of the Sorane ZA-12s as well but wanted to be able to use my existing collection of EMT and Ortofon pickup heads, so that couldn’t be an option.  Since I will be mounting the Ortofon arm at a distance suitable for normal cartridge use, I needed to get the cool little APJ-1 headshell adaptor. This will allow me to use my A-type headshells with an arm mounted for G-types. There’s a 20mm difference between the two. This will allow me to play around with other cartridges easily.

I have an old ADC headshell that needs some new wires, which I think I will make up out of some Audio Silente wire that I have… eventually.

Next step, a plinth, either cheapo DIY or something from DAS Acoustic most likely.
