Wolves & Sage

As previously mentioned I am a sucker for cool and weird packaging, although with this one I think my hipster quotient has gone off the scale.

Wolves in the Throne Room are what could be called a Black Metal band, hailing from Washington State. Their music is trance like and amazing, and I am clearly a huge fan. I was lucky enough to see them play recently at the dingy basement venue of Whammy Bar and it was a sublime performance. Someone videoed the entire Wellington show and uploaded it to YouTube as well.

Anyway,  this release captures two live performances from a few years back. Being a cassette release there are two sides. Side A was recorded at Nowe Miasto, New Orleans, L.A., 25 September 2011. Side B was recorded at the Bell House, Brooklyn, N.Y., 12 September 2011.

According to Discogs:
It’s a limited edition of 509 hand numbered cassettes.
Comes in black diecut cardstock pro-printed with silver imprint.
The first 283 copies feature a handmade sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata subsp.) paper shroud, on which the lyrics of “Prayer of Transformation” is letter-pressed. Includes sage branches, jute string, and a dark gold St. Roch Av. wax seal.

Letter-pressed lyrics are in gold for the 61 prime numbered copies and black for the remaining 222 copies of the first 283 copies.

Mine is number 274, so not a prime number, but I do get the sagebrush and other bits and pieces. It is so cool!
