Diffusion

So, I have moved house. My new space is about 4m by 6m with a fairly high concrete ceiling and glass down one side. I am going to purchase some Vicoustic DC-2 diffusors for the ceiling in the first instance. I’ve always wanted to get some nice acoustic treatments but my previous house wasn’t really suited for it, and to be honest, everything sounded great there anyway. With a clap test, I can definitely hear some echo, which is unsurprising. The furnishings will mitigate that to some degree, but definitely acoustic treatments will help. The DC-2 diffusors were reviewed in Hifi Plus magazine a while ago too.

After I have installed the diffusors, I think I may try some sort of absorption behind the couch where I will sit. It has to be hard up against the back wall, which is fine for me aesthetically at least, but a big no-no according to the audio illuminati. Most likely I will end up with some of those Vicoustic Wavewood panels, but we shall see.

I also installed some nice Ubiquity network hardware to ensure good internet, not only for every day use, but especially for my dCS Network bridge. Currently I am using a 5m generic ethernet cable to connect the access point to the dCS, but I may get a Supra Cat 8 cable… but if it sounds fine as it is, I won’t bother. I am suspecting it will sound perfectly fine.

I have had to move my Mr T power conditioners, so purchased an Acoustic Revive RST-38H Quartz isolation board for them to sit on. Who knows what it will do , if anything, but it wasn’t too expensive and I sort of like the idea of magic quartz rocks. A bit like Jack Spriggin’s enchanted beans. The board itself is made of a Finnish Hickory and “the crystal particles absorb and eliminate the vibration by changing it into thermal energy.
Consequently, there is no vibration to the floor and it also avoids the reversed vibration to the speaker. The result is a much improved, clearer sound, giving a higher level of musical enjoyment.” Since transformers can have a tendency to vibrate, I thought it might be a good idea. I used to use Acoustic Revive interconnects and speaker cables back when I had a Leben based system and they were good.

More to come when I actually get around to buying the acoustic treatments.
