Overhang and Eddy Discs

I was perusing the Acoustand Audio website a while back and noticed a really cool little tool that Lee makes. The OHG-02 is a really easy to use overhang gauge. I like having lots of tools to use and given that I set up a large number of turntables it made sense to grab one, especially as there was a 40% off offer on hand.

Fremer did a little write up about it on Analog Planet that explains how it is used. It comes with a little wedge contraption to lock your platter as well. A useful tool for my armoury.

I also bought a replacement eddy brake disc for the 301 from Ray at Classic Turntable Company. It’s a one piece CNC machined aluminium disc that improves on the original because “the original 2 part  discs are easily damaged and wobble and run untrue as well as causing noise and vibration from not being balanced .

The new disc is made from one solid piece and does run true with no vibration . Easy to fit and a great improvement” So we shall see. It was cheaper than similar options I have seen, so worth the punt. I fitted it this afternoon and could definitely hear benefits straightaway, the turntable was quieter, before there had been a very slight pretty much imperceptible whirring, which has now gone. So I guess that is a win.
