I bought another headshell to use with my nicer cartridges on the Technics. I already have a carbon fibre Yamamoto one, and I have some more traditional magnesium ones as well, so I got a hybrid, an Ortofon LH-9000.

The blurb: “Ortofon LH-9000 is an exceptionally high quality headshell made from carbon fibre, designed to attach perfectly to a range of phono cartridges. This headshell is an advanced design made from magnesium with carbon fibre and weighs only 16.8 grams.

– Made from magnesium with carbon fibre
– Weighs only 16.8 grams
– Mounting distance 38mm minimum / 46mm maximum”

It comes complete with the nice LW-7N headshell wires, which have high purity copper conductors and rhodium tags.

“LW-7N is the hybrid lead wire made of Ultra High Purity Copper wire of 7N and 6 N. The end of wire is fastened by Rhodium plated terminal.
As there is no foreign particle other than Copper 7N (99.99999 % purity) in the wire, music signal can be transmitted without any noise.”

I mounted my Van Den Hul MC Two into it, and will have a listen over the holidays and see what it does. It came with some very nice gold plated cartridge screws which look the part. Usefully it has a set screw that I can loosen to fiddle around with azimuth adjustments if need be too. It’s not a cheap headshell by any means, although no where near expense of some of the insanely priced things I have seen. Ortofon always do good products, so I am sure it will be excellent.
