Technical Ears

Normally I am not a headphone kind of person. I have a pair of super modified Grados and some AKGs in my office, but those are hardly used at all. I’ve had some really nice ones in the past, but I have always felt a bit claustrophobic wearing them, and it gives a very different experience to listening through speakers in a room.

However, I needed something for when I was out frolicking, and didn’t really like what the Apple Airpods had to offer, so I picked up a pair of these Technics AZ-60s.

Things have certainly moved on since I was last using earpods, 25 years ago catching the bus and train into university. These contraptions are really amazing. Fully wireless, with noise cancelling as well. They are controlled by an app on my phone that has full eq functionality as well as a whole lot of other stuff that I haven’t even begun to figure out.

They have a case that acts as a charging base as well, so with the case I can get 24 hours of charge. The headphones themselves will last about 7 hours before needing a charge which is really impressive.

I’m probably really late to the party with these as I have not been keeping up with headphone tech for years, but these really do sound great and have awesome functionality. They’re also really comfortable, which was always an issue with the cheapie Sony earpods I used with my old Minidisc walkman back in the 90s. Perfect for my needs anyway.

Plus I like the fact they are Technics, a brand I always considered to be fancy in my youth. They’ve really come back to the hifi world with a vengeance recently. All the products I have experienced in recent times from them have been very nice indeed.
