I’ve just got my hands on an autographed copy of Nicko McBrain’s new autobiography, Hello Boys and Girls!, and I’m really looking forward to getting into it.
Iron Maiden have been an enormously important part of my musical life for as long as I can remember, so a book like this is always going to have extra interest for me. And Nicko is certainly no ordinary character. He’s a larger-than-life personality, with an excellent sense of humour and a way of telling a story that’s every bit as entertaining as his drumming. Great timing too since I’m going to see them both nights of this weekend, albeit without the now retired from touring Nicko.

I still remember getting my first real taste of his humour through the Listen With Nicko! tracks that appeared on the First Ten Years singles releases back in 1990. Those little recordings were hilarious and gave you a glimpse of the personality behind the drum kit.
I’m expecting plenty of stories, laughs and probably some surprises as well. Having an autographed copy makes it all the more special, too. I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve read it, but this is certainly one I’m looking forward to.
