I bought a nice heavy record puck for the forthcoming Technics. This is a solid brass one from Pro-Ject weighing 800 grams, which is more than enough to keep any wayward vinyl in place. The SP-10R manual states weights up to 1kg can be used so this is well within the limits. I’m pretty sure they don’t affect the sound much themselves, but they do help with warps and also vinyl slippage which I have seen happen, drag from the stylus moving the lp as it plays, which is not ideal. Maybe they help dampen spurious resonances within the vinyl, or at least its interface with the mat… who knows. What I do know is that after years of using a centre spindle weight it would be weird not to at this point.
It has a really fine finish and is super smooth to the touch and is also coated in a clear coating of some kind to mitigate against tarnish from filthy finger oils. The underside has a layer of soft felt to protect record labels too.
The brass compliments the brass platter of the SP-10R as well. I did think about getting a fancy bronze one, but really, couldn’t justify the expense.
This should work fine.
